Bear Necessities - Summer Edition

Hello SLOCA Families!

We're into the last few weeks of summer break and are looking forward to seeing you on Saturday, August 17th, for our ALL SCHOOL Work Day. We've had many staff and volunteers working diligently behind the scenes throughout the summer getting ready to welcome you all back to campus for the 2019-20 school year.

Below are some important announcements to keep you up-to-date on SLOCA matters. Please read through each item, and if you have any questions, feel free to give us a call (805.548.8700) or send us an email (info@sloclassical.org).

1. It’s time to get our campus and classrooms spiffed up for the new year and we need your help! Sign up for SLOCA’s 2019 Work Day and Meet Your Teacher Day taking place on Saturday, August 17th from 8:30am-2:30pm (A pizza lunch will be served). This is a beautiful community building opportunity and a great way to get a head start on your volunteer hours. SIGN UP HERE.

2. We have a new and improved SLOCA Rewards program! This year we’re bringing you extra perks, better deals, and a more polished program. This thing pays for itself… seriously! We guarantee it! To begin, the first 150 members will receive a limited edition SLOCA Rewards travel mug that can be used for one free cup of hot coffee (or hot tea) per day in The Den for the entire 2019-20 school year! In addition, there will be a monthly rollout of discounts at local restaurants and businesses for your enjoyment, including deals like free wine tasting, discounted rates for kayaking, and more! Your rewards and discounts each month will value at least $35-- usually more! Sold? Us too. Join here today at $35 per month or a discounted rate of $400 per year.

3. Reminder - New to SLOCA students coming into 6th, 7th, and 8th grades are required to attend the Intensive Week. For 6th graders, they are required to attend Latin Intensive, Monday (8/19) and Tuesday (8/20) from 9am-12pm. For 7th and 8th graders, they are required to attend Latin and Writing Intensive, Monday - Thursday (8/19-8/22) from 9am-3pm. These intensive classes are also open to returning SLOCA students if they would like a refresher. Just email Amy at admissions@sloclassical.org.

4. After much feedback from our teachers about wanting more math class time, we have changed the school day start time. The morning meeting will now start at 8:20 with math class starting at 8:25. Please be on time! Coming into class late is very disruptive to the teacher and other students. In addition, your student loses valuable math instruction time.

5. The Parent Portal password has changed! In honor of our Renaissance time period, the password is: Leonardo (case sensitive). Remember, this is not to be shared with anyone outside of SLOCA.

ALL SCHOOL Work Day is approaching, SIGN UP HERE!

This school year we will be using Track it Forward, our new volunteer platform. This software will be our main volunteer hub where you can log and keep track of your hours, as well as sign up for volunteer opportunities. Get a head start and sign up with Sam Mizutani on Work Day and start tracking your hours!

In addition to the Work Day, we also need volunteers to help set up and clean up for the Parent Orientation meeting on August 22. Set up starts at 3:30pm at Grace Church in SLO and clean-up will be from 9-10pm following the meeting.

Happy August, Down Home Readers! Summer is all too quickly coming to an end. Don't panic! There are still a few weeks left to enjoy lazy summer days and to check off a few items from your summer bucket list. Make sure to set aside some time to catch up on the blog. We have been highlighting our 2019 seniors and their Senior Projects. Be inspired by their hard work and creativity.

We will finish off the summer with a few more Summer Stunner pieces before we start gearing up for the school year. See you Down Home!

We are less than 3 weeks away before school starts. If you would like help in the bookstore gathering your curriculum, stop by Monday-Thursday from 9-2pm and Brenda will be happy to help you gather the needed items. Bring your curriculum list in with you, with the items you already own marked off, and Brenda will help gather the other items you need. Or sign up for SLOCA Rewards and preorder your curriculum! Please note: The Friday before school starts is really busy, so if you would like to avoid the long lines, come in before then. We are closed for lunch from 12-12:30pm so plan accordingly.

Also: On Monday, August 19, store hours will be 9-11:30am due to all staff training in the afternoon.
