Summer SLOCA Trip 2019 - Europe through the Ages
Hello SLOCA Families!

We hope this finds you relaxed and enjoying the beauty of summer! Our teachers and staff are working hard throughout the summer to prepare for this upcoming school year. New and exciting things continue to happen, and these summer updates are one way for us to stay connected with you and keep you informed.  Please be sure to read through this 2nd summer edition of the Bear Necessities and contact us with any questions.

Warmly,
SLOCA Staff

1. We are having a mini workday on Monday, July 15th, from 9:00am-12:30. Get an early start on your volunteer hours, and come join us! Here is a list of "to-dos" -- you can either sign up for a specific job or you can just show up and we'll find you something to do. Please reach out to Debbie Lee, dlee@sloclassical.org, with any questions. Thank you!

2. Did you know that we have a limited number of discounted tickets to see Treasure Island at Central Coast Shakespeare Festival? We love this annual tradition at SLOCA, where our families enjoy a night at the outdoor theater under the beautiful Central Coast sky. This is a great way to support the local theater and visit your SLOCA friends over the summer. Join us on Sunday, July 28th at Filipponi Ranch at 6:00 pm. Get your discounted tickets HERE!

3. To all families:
  • If your student used a locker, please remove the lock and retrieve any leftover items from within by the end of this month. We will be removing locks by the beginning of August and getting rid of anything that's left inside.
  • Family files have been cleaned out. Some had a lot of stuff left in them from last year! If yours was not cleaned out, please come by the front office and collect these items as soon as possible.
  • Reminder to all UMS and HS students: don’t forget your Summer Read!
  • To all returning families, summer packets were available in your family file at the end of May. Please come by the front office to check your file, as well as pick up your curriculum list from the front desk.
  • To all new families, you should have received your summer packets in the mail by now. If you did not, please email admissions@sloclassical.org.

4. There are still a few spots left in our Novel Adventure Camps and one in our Fairy Tale Camp! Click here to sign up, and your son or daughter can enjoy a week of one of SLOCA’s signature summer camps!

Monday, July 15, 9am-12:30pm -- Mini Work Day -- Sign up here
A HUGE note of thanks to Heidi Mitchell and family for constructing a temporary wall so quickly and efficiently!

Also, many thanks to those of you who came out and helped with our first mini workday of the summer on June 19th. Your diligence and teamwork allowed us to complete many important tasks in a short amount of time!
Happy Summer, Down Home Readers! The blog slows down just a bit in the summertime with content only on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Last week, we posted some ideas (many free!) to do during our summer break so if you need something different to do, check it out! Today, our first post for our Summer Stunner series, written by our very own Social Media Manager, Jeannett Gibson, is up and ready for you! Make sure to come visit us! We look forward to hanging out with you!
Just a reminder, the SLOCA Library is closed until August 26th for inventory.
Just a quick reminder that the store is closed this week. We will re-open again on Monday, July 15th with our summer hours -- Monday-Thursday from 9:00am to 2:00pm (closed for lunch from 12:00-12:30pm each day).

For ordering Scrip:  If you are signed up for Presto Pay, you may continue to use Scrip while we are closed. We will place an order for physical cards again on Thursday, July 11th if you need to place that kind of order.  Remember, if you are paying by check, we need the payment received at the school before 2:00 p.m. on Thursdays. You may pick up your order on the following Wednesdays.

There are still some spaces available for a couple of the summer rock-climbing camps! Click here to sign up, and your son or daughter can enjoy a week of lessons and fun with Coach Mark.
Summer is a great time to log some volunteer hours for next year!  Come into the store and help us hang clothes, organize areas, and tidy up!
special thanks to our sponsors
