Heroic Quest 2015

Though I do not believe that a plant will spring up where no seed has been, I have great faith in a seed... Convince me that you have a seed there, and I am prepared to expect wonders.
~ Henry David Thoreau

Trimester 3 volunteer opportunities are posted! Click here.
THANK YOU to our volunteers this past week! Alisa Welsch, Denise Keefe, Tara Jacobi, Jodie Davis, Logan Hill, Kelly Kim, Zabrina Cox, Michelle Downing, Dana Longman, Jill Richert, Valerie Neuschwander, Sharon Cumberland, Gina Planeta, Linda Jackson, Lisa Purcell, Megan Burtness, Lora Goodwin, Liz Rice, and Liane Kascha-Hare
Hello Down Home readers! Yes, I know we only have a handful of school days left before spring break and we wanted to send you off in a style! Our Monday Mix-Ins went live yesterday so it is ready for your perusing. Today's post highlights our Foundation Circle members' time with Bill D., so make sure to read what they discussed.

A few posts you may need to catch up on from last week include our most recent Cuppa Conversation installment that's all about Logic and its role in the Trivium. Dr. Kozinski has done an exceptional job of explaining the aspects of classical education in a way that is easily grasped. You can even share these posts with those contemplating joining our school or any others that would like to know more about this extraordinary approach to education. Last but not least, our most recent Sports Report was all about the K-4th basketball season. Make sure to check it out!

And make sure to tune in to the blog for the remainder of this week as we have some especially inspiring posts coming up!!

Have a wonderful week and a WONDER-filled spring break next week!

Reminder, we started a new trimester, which means it’s time to buy more curriculum books. Buying from The Den means every dollar stays in the school. It also ensures that you are buying the correct version of the books you need. And before we head into spring break, take a moment to stop by the store and pick up some fun reads for your student. We’ve had a lot of new books come in that will for sure spark an interest with them!

Scrip users, just because we are on spring break doesn't mean you can't order Scrip. Try using the Presto Pay and buying ScripNow, or take advantage of the ReloadNow program. You will still be earning a rebate that will be applied to your Smart Tuition.

Save the date: Senior Project Presentations
A costume designer, a computer programmer, a psychologist, and a comedian all walk into the MPR... To find out how that joke ends, you'll have to come join us on Monday, April 22nd, from 4-7pm in the MPR, for an evening of Senior Projects. This is a capstone event where our graduating students will present their research on a variety of topics, including the fate of ballet after the Bolshevik revolution, the rhetoric of Christian hospitality, the development of naturopathic medicine, modern sci-fi appropriations of ancient mythology, the practice of etching and print-making, and the connection between photography and memory. Please come to support our seniors and learn from their passions and explorations.

Congratulations to our High School Boys Volleyball team, who beat Orcutt Academy 3-0 last night to go to 6-1 on the season. It’s another case of Grizzly Nation courageously stepping up on the bigger schools -- and winning! While SLOCAHS has around 70 students, Orcutt Academy has around 570. The Grizzlies are now 3-0 in league and take on Shandon at Grace Church on Thursday.
What a great way to head into spring break...come cheer for the Grizzlies on Thursday! Game starts at 4:00 pm.

Sign-ups are still available
for Middle School Volleyball, which will be led by our High School Volleyball head coach.

And sign-ups are now available for Ultimate Frisbee; the students will be grouped by general grade level, but anybody from 1st grade through High School is invited to participate!

Coming soon: SLOCA’s Heroic Quest for grades 1-8! We are raising $48,000 for SLOCA! Get ready for weekly quests on-campus, as well as ideas for quests off-campus. We begin on April 15th: be prepared to be a hero!
special thanks to our sponsors
