MAY 14, 2019  |  academic year 2018-19  |  A YEAR OF WONDER
Hello SLOCA Families,

In today's Bear Necessities, I would like to announce my departure from SLOCA (at the end of this school year) as your Event and Volunteer Coordinator. The past 5 years serving you and working alongside you has been one of the biggest blessings of my life. I feel that my talents and contributions were put to good use here propelling this amazing school forward. What a wonderful community of people you are!  I know I will look back fondly on my time spent here. My husband and I have started a company and I have decided to start an event planning adventure of my own. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need help planning your next big event! I look forward to dropping by to say hello in the future. I will miss you all.

In gratitude,

Tiffany Rivers

Hello Down Home readers! Welcome to
Week 33!
Now up on the blog are your supplemental resources for the week, along with an encouragement to help you through the last few weeks of the school year. Also, if you didn't get a chance to stop by last week, make sure to do so as we have some fun posts for you (like this month's character literature selections) and a chance to win a FREE SLOCA sweatshirt! That's an almost $40 dollar value! Stop on by and join in!!
Sign-ups for Summer Sports Camps are now available! Camps include K-6 multi-sport, rock-climbing (new classes just opened), basketball, and volleyball. There’s also a $40 credit for any non-SLOCA families who mention your name, so feel free to spread the word!

And congratulations to Mark Nickodemus for being elected the new president for the Coast Valley Prep League. Great job, Mark!

Battle of the Books will be waged:
Wednesday May 22, 2:40 pm, for families on Track A, and
Thursday May 24, 2:40 pm, for families on Track B.

It’s a Team Sport!
At the event, you will be assigned to a team consisting of 4th, 5th, and 6th graders and will compete as a team, answering questions about the books you’ve read, and running relays.

The battle questions often begin, "In what book does…?" Your team earns points by answering with the correct book TITLE and AUTHOR, within the time allotted. You and your teammates will compete for prizes and the chance to be the 2019 Battle of the Books Champions.

Join in the fun!
·   Students sign up at the Librarian’s desk.
·   Parents volunteer at the Librarian’s desk to read questions and time the responses.
·   All SLOCA families and staff are invited to come and cheer!

Battle of the Books is a nationwide reading program for 4th, 5th, and 6th graders who want to READ good books, challenge themselves, and have FUN.

special thanks to our sponsors
